Shoot 8 - Work Diary

E V A L U A T I O N

For my final shoot prior to the exam I went to photograph the river Thames. I chose to do this shoot at night time in order to capture the way the lights of the city shone over the water. This is a magical shoot, the lights on the boats and the light from the london eye created some stunning photographs. The water carries the image of the city within it and is a major landmark, just another reason water is incredible, its self can be a mode of transport, a land mark and a survival source.

If I were to re do this shoot I may try and do a day time version, and capture the sheer volume of tourists that enjoy the Thames on a daily basis. This shoot has inspired me to focus on rivers and the ocean in some of my future photography projects. I am excited to continue studying water and am pleased with the lessons this project has taught me such as depth and tone but also how to photograph moving things like water.

Shoot 7 - Work Diary

For this shoot I took a trip to Trafalgar Square to photograph the fountain, I really loved this shoot I found it fascinating how the water falls. My Canon 760D captures the fountain and it holds mystical beauty with the chaotic London city all around it. This tourist attraction during the summer calls thousands from all over the world, the lights in the fountain sometimes give the water a yellow, blue and red tint and at night the stunning fountain is lit up by its surrounding area. The fountain is a gem in the centre of a bustling London day, the chaotic pouring water sometimes so violent it is hard to see the beauty however captured this way looks stunning.

This shoot was really inspiring and I really enjoyed doing it, if I had the chance to do it again I would perhaps do it on a day with better weather and explore other areas of the fountain. I would love to create a bigger focus on the money thrown into the water, people making wishes on their pennies hoping this magical tourist site will make them come true. My next shoot is also London based I am going to shoot the river Thames and I want to do this at night to see how the lighting of the wonderful city of London exaggerates the beauty of the water.

Shoot 6 - Work Diary

E V A L U A T I O N

For this shoot I purposely chose a rainy day as I wanted to photograph rain and how people react to it. In order to get the best outlook on a rainy day I travelled to London to see how Londoners and tourists react to a way, also to see how rain effects the city. I really enjoyed the shoot however the error I made was only taking one lens, to get some great photos I wish I had taken my zoom lens. I really love the shots I ahve managed to capture though as I think they look completely natural - some of the people are caught out and have no preparation for rain however most of the time Piccadilly Circus and South Bank seemed to be an endless sea of coloured umbrellas.

If I were to do this shoot again my first change would be to bring my second lens in order to capture more specific lens such as the splashes of puddles and cars driving through the wet. I really did love this shoot though and I would love to do more photographs of people this way, My next shoot I will be going to London again but this time I will be visiting Trafalgar Square as I would love to photograph the fountain. I believe this shoot will be very interesting as fountains are a way of making art out of water instead of about water.

Shoot 5 - Work Diary

E V A L U A T I O N

In this shoot i decided to do a follow up from the previous shoot and photographed the multi coloured water going down the plug hole and put the tap on to create an effect of rushing water. I wanted to do this shoot to discuss the importance of wasting water as water is a precious commodity in some countries yet I am lucky enough to be able to have running water. I enjoyed doing this shoot as I think the rushing water with the rose petals looked very dramatic and the multi coloured water and bubbles disappearing down the plug hole create a great effect as it shows a different side the the project.

Further on from this shoot given the chance to progress and try it again I definitely would however I would focus more on clear water being drained rather than coloured water, or I would us food colouring to colour the water instead of a bath bomb because then the water would be smoother. My next shoot is going to be slightly different and will focus on a rainy day, I am choosing to go to London to complete this shoot in order to study the way tourists and londoners react to the rain.

Shoot 4 - Work Diary

E V A L U AT I O N

In this shoot I chose to do an experimentation with a bath bomb as I can link it to my shoot with food colouring and water and the effects of coloured water and then I can link it to my shoot with water and paper as this is another permeable object which reacts with water that I am looking at. I really enjoyed this shoot as I found it fascinating photographing all the beautiful colours as they mixed together to turn the water into a beautiful bright pink lake, I found this shoot incredibly interesting as I was also able to photograph the bubbles and how they sit and look on the water. The bath bomb bubbles look like tiny little lava eruptions which is ironic as this is a shoot based on water.

This shoot was really interesting and important to my project as it allows me to focus on the way chemicals react with water. If I were to do this shoot again I would add in a few different bath bombs to see the way multiple water colours mixed together and how it effected the bath. My next shoot links to this as I am going to photograph the water going down the plug hole, it can represent the way water is wasted in the modern world when it is a precious commodity in some countries.

Shoot 3 - Work Diary

E V A L U A T I O N

In this shoot I decided to focus on the way water affected permeable solids such as paper, I used photographs of a model to make the shoot more related to photography, these were my own photos from a previous unit. I splashed water on the photographs and also soaked them in a bucket of water in order to see the effects. I immensely enjoyed this shoot as I love the way the water droplets sit on the photographs and when I soaked the photograph it almost looked as if only the models eyes are submerged in the water, like part of her is missing. I believe this shoot has a lot of depth.

If I were to do this shoot again I would use a less expensive type of paper as I would like to see the ink in the photographs run as I feel it would create a more dramatic effect on the photographs however despite this shoot not working out how I imagined I am pleased with the results I got. My next shoot I am moving back to coloured water but it links to this as I am using a bath bomb which is another permeable solid however this one reacts with water. I will be photographing the bubbles and the effect the chemicals have on the water.

Shoot 2 - Work Diary

E V A L U A T I O N

In this shoot I decided to shoot vases of water and pour food colouring in them to study the way the food colouring looks in the water. I found it created beautiful cloud like colourful shapes in the water, the wonderful thing about this shoot is that you can never take two of the same photographs because water will never fall the same way twice. I found in this shoot I was able to experiment widely, I photographed many different colours and found different colours react differently to the water, I also focused on pouring the water out and capturing the splashing of the droplets as they fall. This shoot has really inspired me and I hope to develop this idea further possibly for one of my exam shoots.

I really enjoyed doing this shoot on water and i loved experimenting with the different coloured syrups and food colourings. I have plans to develop this idea for my exam shoots where I will add ice into the experiment and look at the effects water has on ice and also the way the colours reflect within the ice cubes. For my next shoot I am planning to look at the effects water has on paper and to do this I will use photos of my model and look at how the water moulds to the paper and how it sits on the photographs.

Shoot 1 - Work Diary

E V A L U A T I O N

In this shoot I was excited to introduce myself to the project, water seemed a daunting task to me at first therefore I decided to attempt an easy shoot to ease myself in. In this shoot I simply poured water into the glass bowl and photographed the splashing and the bubbles and just wanted to see the effects of water and how they could be captured with a camera. I used photo shop to do simple editing to create dramatic water photographs. I love the way the water shines and almost looks like a solid object despite the fact that the liquid is constantly moving.

I really enjoyed doing this shoot however if I could change anything I would've used both of my lenses in order to get a variety of shots, another thing I would try would be to add something like washing up liquid or bubble mixture to the water to see if this helped to create larger bubbles. Over all I really enjoyed this shoot as an introduction to my exam project. In my next shoot I am planning to look at pouring again however this time I am going to pour food colouring into a vase of water and watch the patterns it makes, it is interesting how the water and the food colouring mix to create clouds of colour within the water and I am eager to photograph this myself.
